Letters of Change

A weekly space for happiness, self-trust & the art of living well

Hello and welcome back Reader!

Sometimes your mind is loud with questions, your heart heavy with doubt.
You go in circles, overthinking the same problem, unsure what to do next.
You don’t need another solution right away.
You need space.
To speak freely. To feel heard. To say it all — even the messy bits.

And then, often, something shifts.

A theme emerges.
We name it. We shape it into a question.
And instead of answering it ourselves, we ask someone who might know better.

Not always a real person.
Sometimes it’s a respected figure you admire.
Sometimes it’s your future self, the one who’s already been there.
I call this: Ask the Master.

It sounds simple. And it is.
What else? — It works.

When Uncertainty Meets a Master

Here are three real-life stories of people stuck in familiar loops, and how one gentle question offered a surprising way out.

The Writer Who Hated Promotion

She was well-known in her field — respected, published, admired. But the idea of self-promotion? Exhausting.
Publishers insisted: “You need to show up. Speak. Be seen. It’s part of the game.”
She couldn’t stand it. All that small talk felt like a waste.

We explored this tension until her mind landed on someone she trusted — not a marketer, but an actor.
At first, she imagined flashy talk-show hosts… but they didn’t feel right.
Then she saw it: “Maybe I should ask someone like Tom Hanks or Meryl Streep.
And in that moment, her ‘masters’ replied:

“Meeting the audience is the biggest joy. You write for them. What could be more important?”

The Successful Man Who Felt Small

To the world, he looked accomplished. But inside? He doubted himself.
He constantly compared his pace, success, and energy to younger colleagues and it drained him.

He kept thinking about people who used to irritate him — former partners who didn’t try to please anyone, who simply followed their own rhythm.
They weren’t his role models.
But sometimes, the master hides in the shadow.
We don’t only learn from those we admire.
We also learn from those who possess something we’ve denied in ourselves.

“Look — we never tried to be liked. We just did what we wanted. Your problem is abandoning your own desires. Why not simply be yourself?"

The Young Professional Who Always Came Last

Bright, kind, full of potential. But she always put others first.
No time for her own growth, goals, or rest.
When asked to find a master, she didn’t name a person.
Instead, she remembered something simple we all heard at least once:

“In case of cabin pressure loss, place your oxygen mask on yourself before helping others.”

She smiled. That was it.
The voice she trusted reminded her:

Self-care isn’t selfish — it’s survival.

What I've learned

Sometimes the wisest voice isn’t the loudest.
It’s the one we trust — even if it speaks from memory, imagination, or shadow.
We don’t always need more advice.
We need better questions — and someone safe to ask them to.

Who would you ask, if you knew they’d answer?

P.S.
Courage isn’t the absence of fear. It’s moving with it. Confidence grows from action, not perfection.

A mini-practice you can give a try

  1. Think of a pattern you can’t seem to escape.
    A fear. A habit. A story you’re tired of.
  2. Now close your eyes and imagine someone who might see the truth.
It could be your future self. A mentor. A fictional character. A shadow figure.
  3. Ask your question. Listen.
    What message do you hear?

Write it down. Let it surprise you.
